In 1987, Congress announced that March of each year be “Women’s History Month.” On March 16, 2011, the “Women’s History Month” award ceremony was held by the San Francisco Mayor, Board of Supervisors and the Commission on the Status of Women, to honor the women who have made special contributions to the community.
In addition to the eleven women that each Supervisor elected to represent their own district, Mayor Ed Lee chose President and CEO of Self-Help for the Elderly, Anni Chung to accept an award. Mayor Lee also announced March 16 as “Anni Chung Day.”
Mayor Lee praised Anni for her vision over the years in the development of senior service programs including health, education, community and recreational activities that meet the needs of the community. Anni said that this award is not just for her but for the hard work of entire Self-Help staff. She said she will continue her efforts to protect and provide more community services.
